Urban Turtle 4 & 5 for TFS 2012+
Urban Turtle 4 & 5is a collection of add-ons and each add-on can be activated for a certain number of users. Licenses are per-user, similar to the TFS CAL license model. Put simply, anyone who accesses an add-on in Urban Turtle uses a license. Licenses are linked to a user account for a period of 30 days. If the user has not logged in for a month, the license is released and free to use by another user. Urban Turtle is web-based so there's nothing to install on each workstation. Licenses are managed by the application on the server. All add-ons require a valid license at all time in order to work.
To help control access, you can enable Urban Turtle for specific projects or collections. This is done through the server-level Administration Page which you can access by clicking on Administer Team Foundation Server on the server home page and then on the Urban Turtle tab.
Urban Turtle 2010
The licencing model for Urban Turtle 2010 uses the same licensing model as Urban Turtle 2012 but licenses are linked to a user account for a period of 7 days. When the count is exceeded, a warning message appears on the planning and task boards. It is displayed as an information bar just above the work items. The software is still very usable, but this message is always visible until the issue is resolved. Starting with version 3.14, it is possible to view the list of active users from the license page in Urban Turtle.
Just like with Urban Turtle 2012, it is possible to activate Urban Turtle for specific projects or collections. In order to activate this feature, a file called global.settings must be configured.
